Outreach in new blocks

Namma Swachha Adugodi (NSA) 

Under the Namma Swachha Adugodi (NSA) initiative, Let’s Be The Change and Saahas continued working towards building stronger, cleaner, and more responsible communities through a blend of awareness sessions, on-ground action, and behaviour change programs across the Adugodi area.

This month’s key activities included, activities in the newly adopted 8th block:

• 06th May: Initial monitoring of waste collection vehicles commenced across the project area to assess vehicle movements, route allocations, and black spots. Field alignment meetings were held with contractors, the AGM, Division Supervisor, Marshals, and JHI to streamline operations, improve staff coordination, and optimize waste collection routes.

  07th May: Discussions for Namma Swachha Adugodi (NSA) – Year 3 were initiated with project partners to define the implementation roadmap, finalize project timelines, and establish key operational priorities for the upcoming phase.

  11th–27th May: A series of silent surveys, audits, and field observations were conducted across Blocks 8, 9, and 14 to establish baseline data on household participation, waste collection practices, and source segregation, providing valuable insights for future interventions.

  18th May: A coordination meeting was held with the AGM, Division Supervisor, Marshals, and JHI to review findings from the vehicle monitoring exercise, discuss operational challenges, and strengthen planning for improved field implementation.

  19th May: A trial of the new uniform was conducted with a waste collection staff member from Block 14 to evaluate its comfort, fit, and practicality before wider distribution among sanitation workers.

  22nd May: Surveying, household numbering, and stickering activities were launched in the newly adopted Block 8, marking the expansion of household-level mapping and data collection under the project.

  23rd May: Volunteers from Bosch joined the team for a door-to-door awareness and survey campaign, engaging residents on waste segregation and supporting household data collection through community outreach.

  26th May: The Bosch team visited the project area to review the DWCC equipment tagging system and observe the implementation of composting units in the adopted government schools, strengthening collaboration and monitoring project progress.

  

  

  

  

  

  

Veeraru:

The schools remain closed for summer vacation. The Regular activites will resume with the reopening of schools in June

• Waste Audit

         A continued detailed waste audit was carried out to assess the quality of segregation and identify gaps in collection practices.

Namma Swachha Adakmaranahalli Grama Panchayat(NSAGP)

We are excited to commence a new initiative titled “Namma Swachha Adakamaranahalli" aimed at strengthening sustainable waste management practices at the village level. The Adakamaranahalli Gram Panchayat consists of three villages—Adakamaranahalli, Makali, and Harokyatanahalli. Notably, Makali is home to the manufacturing unit of Himalaya Wellness Company.

• 09th May: The 2nd Himalaya Volunteering Activity was conducted in Makali, where 4 volunteers from the Himalaya campus participated in a commercial waste survey, supporting data collection and strengthening community engagement.

  12th May: The 1st Village-Level Stakeholder Meeting was held at Adakamaranahalli Village, bringing together key stakeholders to finalize the household dustbin distribution schedule, identify the kiosk location, and plan logistical support, including vehicle and helper arrangements.

  21st May: Household Dustbin Distribution commenced in Adakamaranahalli Village in the presence of E. Krishnappa. By 31st May, a total of 325 households had received segregated waste bins, promoting waste segregation at the source.

  26th May: A Capacity Building Workshop was organized at Adakamaranahalli Gram Panchayat, where 15 frontline workers, including watermen, auto drivers, and sweepers, were trained on solid waste management responsibilities. Hygiene kits were also distributed to all participants.

  29th May: The 1st Village-Level Stakeholder Meeting was conducted at Harokyathanahalli Village, where stakeholders discussed their roles and responsibilities and planned the implementation strategy for the NSAGP initiative.

  30th May: Household Dustbin Distribution was launched in Harokyathanahalli Village in the presence of village leaders, marking the beginning of source segregation efforts in the village and expanding the implementation of the NSAGP initiative.

Erudition Time:

Starting April 1, the Solid Waste Management (SWM) initiative will be formally implemented to strengthen waste segregation, streamline collection systems, and improve overall cleanliness in the community. The initiative will focus on proper bin placement, monitoring segregation at source, awareness among vendors and residents, and structured tracking of waste movement.

This marks a significant step towards building a more accountable and sustainable waste management system, ensuring long-term environmental impact and community participation.
