HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH

Little Hands, Green Beginnings: The Clay Ganesha Movement

Continuing our annual tradition, LBTC conducted Clay Ganesha workshops this year to promote awareness about eco-friendly Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Through these hands-on sessions, participants were encouraged to create their own clay Ganeshas and understand the importance of choosing natural, biodegradable materials over Plaster of Paris (POP) idols, fostering a greener and more sustainable festive season.

The workshops were conducted at the following locations:

Smart Namma Swaccha Bengaluru(SNSB)

We are excited to announce the launch of our new project with Intel, piloting GPS-enabled monitoring for Garbage Collection & Transportation (C&T) to strengthen efficiency, accountability, and route management across Bommanahalli and Shantinagar.

  • GPS Installation & Route Mapping:

GPS devices have been installed in garbage collection and transportation (C&T) vehicles, with routes mapped for vehicle-level monitoring.

  • Block-Level SWM Implementation:

Four blocks in Hongasandra Ward, Bommanahalli Division have been adopted for household-level solid waste management tracking, with field activities initiated in Madina Nagar and Popular Colony.

  • GPS Tracking Dashboard:

GPS-enabled vehicles and mapped routes are being integrated into a digital dashboard to monitor vehicle movement and collection routes.

  • Household Identification & Audits:

Baseline surveys and household audits were conducted to assess waste segregation and participation levels, while familiarising households with their unique identification numbers.

  • Unique Household Numbering:

Household numbering and data collection are being progressively integrated into the LBTC web application, enabling structured household-level monitoring and tracking.

Stories of Change:

Stories of Change is an initiative that celebrates individuals making a positive impact on the environment through simple, sustainable everyday practices. From composting and waste segregation to carrying reusable bags, avoiding single-use plastics, and growing food at home, every conscious choice contributes to a greener future.

The campaign invites individuals to share their sustainability stories and inspire others to adopt environmentally responsible habits. Selected stories will be reviewed and verified by our team before being featured on our social media platforms.

Every small action matters, and every story has the power to inspire change!

  • Commercial Survey Concluded in New Blocks

The Commercial Survey in New Block 9 was successfully concluded on 1st September 2026, completing the commercial outreach across Blocks 8, 9 and 14. As part of the initiative, shops were provided with individual identification numbers and sensitised on responsible waste management practices.

The awareness sessions focused on waste segregation, proper disposal methods, reducing single-use plastics, and understanding the journey and environmental impact of waste when it is not collected through designated waste collection vehicles.

    Commercial establishments covered:

    • Block 8: 32 shops

    • Block 9: 141 shops

    • Block 14: 31 shops

    • Total: 204 shops

  • Night Collection and Baseline Audit:

Night-time waste collection continued across the old Blocks 10, 12 and 13, with a strong focus on ensuring proper segregation. It was ensured that only dry waste was collected, and vehicles across all three blocks did not collect mixed waste.

A baseline audit was also conducted to assess the number of households handing over their waste during the evening collection. The audit will help understand collection patterns and support further improvements in waste segregation and collection practices.

  • AGM Meeting :

On 17 September 2026, the LBTC and Saahas teams held a coordination meeting with the AGM, JHI, Marshal Supervisor, Marshals, PK Supervisor and Padmashree Ma’am to discuss key waste management challenges and identify measures to improve collection efficiency.

The discussion focused on reducing mixed waste, addressing recurring dump-site issues, preventing late-night dumping, and managing waste being dumped by residents from neighbouring wards. The teams also discussed strengthening coordination and monitoring to ensure better segregation, efficient waste collection, and improved waste management practices across the blocks.

  • Bosch Team Field Visit :

A field audit was conducted by the Bosch team to understand residents' feedback, responses, and behavioral changes resulting from the project interventions. The audit focused on assessing the level of impact achieved through the Year 2 project activities and identifying observable changes in waste management practices and community participation.

  • Meeting on Night Collection:

A coordination meeting was held on 28 August 2026 with the AGM, contractor, JHI, Marshals, Marshal Supervisor, Saahas, and the LBTC team to strengthen the implementation of night-time waste collection.

    Key points discussed included:

    • Ensuring helpers are available to sort dry waste.

    • Collecting dry waste only during night collection, with no mixed waste.

    • Reducing waste mixing across all blocks and strengthening source segregation among households and commercial establishments.

Veeraru:

The project at Dairy Circle and Police Quarters, Koramangala, has successfully concluded. While no new activities are planned, the areas will continue to be monitored to sustain the progress achieved.

Meanwhile, new projects have been initiated in Ejipura and Jambusavari Dinne, expanding our efforts towards cleaner and more sustainable communities.

Ejipura Government School

A waste management awareness session was conducted at Ejipura Government School, introducing students to the fundamentals of waste management and sustainable practices. The session included interactive games on waste segregation to help students understand the importance of separating waste at source. Students were introduced to the composting process and its importance in transforming organic waste into nutrient-rich manure, promoting sustainable waste management practices.

Desmet Veeraru:

DESMET joined hands with Let’s Be The Change (LBTC) to initiate the Veeraru Project, promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices among students. As part of the initiative, engaging activities were conducted at Jambusavari Dinne Government School, including a bio-enzyme-making workshop to encourage the reuse of organic waste and a T-shirt upcycling workshop, where old T-shirts were transformed into reusable bags. These hands-on activities encouraged students to embrace sustainable habits, reduce waste, and explore creative ways to reuse everyday materials.

  • Waste Audit

A continued detailed waste audit was carried out to assess the quality of segregation and identify gaps in collection practices.

Namma Swachha Adakamaranahalli Grama Panchayat(NSAGP)

We are excited to commence a new initiative titled “Namma Swachha Adakamaranahalli" aimed at strengthening sustainable waste management practices at the village level. The Adakamaranahalli Gram Panchayat consists of three villages—Adakamaranahalli, Makali, and Harokyatanahalli. Notably, Makali is home to the manufacturing unit of Himalaya Wellness Company.

Household Entry Corrections:

Household data corrections are ongoing in Adakamaranahalli, which has approximately 2,055 households. The remaining corrections in Harokyathanahalli and Makali are yet to be completed.

Deployment of Collection Vehicle Helpers:

One helper has been deployed for each waste collection vehicle to improve collection efficiency and ensure proper waste segregation at the source.

Waste Segregation Audits and Monitoring:

Regular audits are being conducted alongside collection vehicles, accompanied by resident awareness initiatives to promote proper waste segregation practices.

Signage Installation at Garbage Dumping Spots:

Five signboards have been installed at identified garbage-dumping spots to discourage open dumping and encourage responsible waste disposal among residents.

Erudition Time:

The Greater Bengaluru Authority has launched the #JustCleanBengaluru Challenge, encouraging citizens to clean and transform vacant plots in their neighbourhoods. Participants can document their before-and-after transformation and share it using #JustCleanBengaluru, with selected efforts receiving official recognition.
