We are excited to announce the launch of our new project with Intel, piloting GPS-enabled monitoring for Garbage Collection & Transportation (C&T) to strengthen efficiency, accountability and route management across Bommanahalli and Shantinagar.
GPS Monitoring System Inaugurated
On 13th and 14th August, the pilot GPS Monitoring System for Garbage Collection & Transportation (C&T) was inaugurated across the Bommanahalli and Shantinagar divisions, respectively. The initiative aims to strengthen the monitoring of garbage collection vehicles by enabling real-time tracking of vehicle movement and routes. This will help improve route adherence, identify gaps in collection, enhance operational efficiency, and support better accountability in the waste collection system.
SWM Implementation in Hongasandra
As part of strengthening Solid Waste Management (SWM) practices, three blocks in Hongasandra, Bommanahalli, were adopted for focused implementation. Unique household and door numbering was initiated to establish a systematic record of households and improve the tracking of waste collection services. This will also support better monitoring of segregation, collection coverage, and community participation as the project progresses.
GPS Route Mapping Completed
GPS route mapping for garbage collection vehicles was successfully completed across four wards in Bommanahalli. The mapping provides a clear understanding of the routes followed by collection vehicles and establishes a baseline for monitoring their movement and coverage. This will help identify route deviations, missed areas, and operational gaps, ultimately contributing to a more efficient and reliable waste collection system.
Namma Swachha Adugodi (NSA)
Commercial Survey & Waste Awareness:
As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen waste management awareness, commercial surveys were conducted across Blocks 8, 9, and 14. Shops were individually numbered, while shopkeepers were engaged on waste segregation, responsible disposal, reducing single-use plastics, and the importance of understanding where waste goes beyond collection.
The survey offered valuable insights into current waste practices and helped identify opportunities to support local businesses in adopting more sustainable waste-management practices.
32 shops were surveyed in Block 8, 31 shops in Block 14, and 120 shops in Block 9, where the survey remains ongoing.
Apartment Awareness:
Awareness activities were conducted across apartments in Blocks 8, 9 and 14, in collaboration with BBMP officials. Security personnel, apartment in-charges, and residents were sensitised on the importance of waste segregation and regular handover of segregated waste to collection vehicles.
Apartment representatives were also encouraged to engage residents and promote consistent waste segregation practices, strengthening responsible waste management at the community level.
New Blocks Follow-Ups Initiated:
Monitoring and follow-up activities were initiated across Blocks 8, 9, and 14 through regular audits, door-to-door interactions, and community engagement. These efforts focused on strengthening household awareness and encouraging consistent waste segregation and responsible disposal practices.
Dustbin Distribution in Old Blocks:
Dustbins were distributed across Blocks 10, 12, and 13 to support new tenants and households with damaged or broken bins, helping ensure that residents have the necessary infrastructure to practice proper waste segregation.
AGM Meeting – 18 August 2026:
An AGM meeting was held on 18 August 2026 to strengthen waste-management practices and address key operational concerns. The following actions were discussed:
Additional vehicles will be deployed for dump-spot clearing after the 15th of every month.
Night collection will be introduced in Rajendra Nagar (Blocks 10, 12 and 13) for dry waste only, with strict avoidance of mixed waste collection.
Marshals and JHIs will take action against households and commercial establishments that fail to segregate waste and hand over mixed waste.
Collection vehicles will work towards reducing the collection of mixed waste and encouraging proper segregation at source.
AGM Meeting with Block 9 Residents:
On 24 August 2026, Block 9 residents met with the AGM, JHI, Marshals and Marshal Supervisor to discuss key waste-management concerns in the area. Discussions focused on dump-site issues, late-night dumping, waste being brought in from neighbouring wards, multiple collection vehicles operating within the block, and residents handing over waste to PKs instead of designated garbage collection vehicles.
The meeting provided an opportunity to understand residents’ concerns and identify areas for improved coordination and waste-management practices.
Night Collection & Baseline Audit:
Night-time waste collection commenced on 24 August 2026 across the older Blocks 10, 12 and 13, with a focus on collecting dry waste. A baseline audit was also conducted to understand household waste handover patterns during the evening and assess current segregation practices.
Meeting on Night Collection:
A coordination meeting was held on 28 August 2026 with the AGM, contractor, JHI, Marshals, Marshal Supervisor, Saahas, and the LBTC team to strengthen the implementation of night-time waste collection.
Key points discussed included:
Ensuring helpers are available to sort dry waste.
Collecting dry waste only during night collection, with no mixed waste.
Reducing waste mixing across all blocks and strengthening source segregation among households and commercial establishments.
Veeraru:
The project at Dairy Circle and Police Quarters, Koramangala, has successfully concluded. While no new activities are planned, the areas will continue to be monitored to sustain the progress achieved.
Meanwhile, new projects have been initiated in Ejipura and Jambusavari Dinne, expanding our efforts towards cleaner and more sustainable communities.
This month, two activities were conducted in Ejipura — a Pre-Assessment and an Introduction to Waste Management session. The sessions helped the community understand the importance of waste segregation at source, different categories of waste, and the role of households in ensuring proper waste management. Participants also gained awareness about adopting simple, responsible practices to reduce waste and keep their surroundings cleaner.
This month, Jambusavari Dinne hosted three engaging activities — two Composting Workshops on 7th and 19th August, followed by a Bio-Enzymes Workshop on 28th August. Participants learned how wet waste can be converted into useful compost at home, reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills. The bio-enzymes workshop introduced residents to the process of converting fruit and vegetable waste into a natural, multipurpose cleaning solution, encouraging them to explore practical ways of managing organic waste within their homes.
Waste Audit
A continued detailed waste audit was carried out to assess the quality of segregation and identify gaps in collection practices.
Namma Swachha Adakamaranahalli Grama Panchayat(NSAGP)
We are excited to commence a new initiative titled “Namma Swachha Adakamaranahalli" aimed at strengthening sustainable waste management practices at the village level. The Adakamaranahalli Gram Panchayat consists of three villages—Adakamaranahalli, Makali, and Harokyatanahalli. Notably, Makali is home to the manufacturing unit of Himalaya Wellness Company.
Strengthening Segregated Waste Collection:
Collection vehicles across Adakamaranahalli Gram Panchayat were fabricated and adapted to enable the efficient collection of segregated waste.
Driving Household Awareness:
Household audits were conducted across all three villages, engaging residents on the importance of waste segregation and responsible waste disposal.
Erudition Time:
The Greater Bengaluru Authority has launched the #JustCleanBengaluru Challenge, encouraging citizens to clean and transform vacant plots in their neighbourhoods. Participants can document their before-and-after transformation and share it using #JustCleanBengaluru, with selected efforts receiving official recognition.
