HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH

Evening Echoes of Change:

Spreading Plastic Awareness Block by Block!

Namma Swachha Adugodi (NSA) – Bosch:

September was a month of meaningful progress, community engagement, and collective action for the NSA project. Through awareness drives, waste audits, volunteer participation, and focused community sessions, we continued to move closer toward a cleaner and more responsible Adugodi.

The graph below showcases the total number of households in each newly added 6 blocks this year, along with the average number of households actively giving waste in August and September.

A slight yet positive rise is observed in household participation in waste collection since August

The table highlights segregation percentages for August and September. Although segregation performance is strong, there is a need to improve household participation in waste collection moving forward

Noticing that waste was often being handed over in plastic liners, we organized weekly evening awareness sessions in the 3 Rajendranagar blocks every Saturday at 6 PM

Awareness drives were conducted across 3 blocks of Rajendra Nagar to encourage residents to:

  • Give waste only in the community bins

  • Avoid using plastic liners in dustbins

  • Stop dumping plastic on roadsides

These sessions included:

  • Short video screenings on the harmful effects of plastic on animals and the planet

  • Open discussions on daily challenges faced by residents

  • Practical tips on reducing waste generation and switching to sustainable alternatives

Volunteer Engagement

A Plog Run (jogging while picking up waste) was organized with Bosch volunteers at Rajendra Nagar. 20 employees participated enthusiastically, collecting 35 kg of waste in just one hour. The event not only helped clean the area but also raised awareness among local residents, as volunteers led by example and engaged with the community on responsible waste management.

Veeraru/Green School

After last month’s experiment on what decomposes and what doesn’t, this month the children got their hands dirty in a DIY home composting workshop using old buckets! They learned how to turn kitchen waste into nutrient-rich compost in a simple, fun way. The session also included a mini waste-segregation game, helping them recap and remember the importance of sorting waste correctly—all while having a blast!

Plogrun with InfoBell IT

On September 26th, 2025, Let’s Be The Change organized an exciting plogging event at the Smart Works Campus, Bengaluru, as part of our mission to make the city garbage-free and raise awareness about responsible solid waste management. The event combined fitness and fun while engaging employees in hands-on environmental action.

As part of InfoBell IT’s CSR initiative, more than 48 enthusiastic employees joined the Swachaa Bengaluru mission. The activity began with a briefing on plogging and its importance, setting the stage for a meaningful and active session.

In just one hour, the team collected over 77 kg of dry waste, which was handed over to the BBMP Dry Waste Collection Center (DWCC), marking a significant contribution to our ongoing commitment to sustainability. Through this event, participants not only cleaned their surroundings but also became ambassadors of responsible waste management in their community.

SWM Session at KSPCB

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) invited Let’s Be The Change to conduct a Solid Waste Management (SWM) session for their staff. The session aimed to raise awareness on proper waste segregation, best disposal practices, and sustainable alternatives. Through this engagement, employees were equipped with practical knowledge and actionable tips to adopt responsible waste management habits both at work and in their daily lives.

SWM Session at Ballary

Following our successful IEC sessions at Vikas Soudha for ULBs, the Ballari Municipality invited Let’s Be The Change to conduct a full-day Solid Waste Management (SWM) training for their urban local bodies. On 6th September 2025, we conducted an extensive session for 100 participants which included community mobilizers, senior and junior health inspectors, and engineers from 8 ULBs in Ballari.

The training covered:

  • Types of waste and segregation at source

  • Wet waste processing and DIY home composting

  • IEC strategies for community awareness

  • And many practical tools for effective SWM implementation

This initiative strengthened local capacities to manage waste efficiently and promoted sustainable practices across the region.

Erudition Time:

Gentle on Baby, Gentle on Earth – Switch to Cloth Diapers!

Disposable diapers may be convenient, but they take hundreds of years to decompose and can cause rashes and skin irritation in babies. Switch to reusable cloth diapers—they’re eco-friendly, gentle on your child, and cost-effective. A small change at home can make a big difference for the planet and your baby’s health!

Which type of diaper do you currently use for your baby?

  • Cloth Diapers – Reusable & Eco-Friendly

  • Disposable Diapers – Convenient but Less Sustainable

  • A Mix of Both

  • Considering Switching to Cloth Diapers
