HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH
Crafting a Greener Future:
Celebrating Sustainability at Our Eco-Friendly Ganesh Workshop!
Project Repurpose
We are excited to announce the launch of our collaboration with OSB on a transformative new project to empower local communities! Last month, the OSB team visited LR Nagar and Mestripalya to explore specialized training sessions aimed at upskilling community workers. These sessions will focus on advanced waste management techniques and entrepreneurial skills, helping participants unlock the full potential of waste materials while driving economic growth.
To kick off this initiative, we organized an orientation for OSB employees at their campus. During the session, we highlighted the environmental impact of fast fashion and the importance of reusing old clothes to reduce landfill waste. The employees were introduced to the innovative products crafted by our community women, showcasing how waste can be transformed into valuable items.
In a further show of support, OSB employees are spearheading a cloth collection drive, marking the beginning of a meaningful journey toward community empowerment and sustainability. We look forward to working together to create a lasting impact!
Veeraru - CGI Green Ambassador
We recently conducted our Veeraru course at the CGI office, beginning with an online orientation for all employees on 13th September. Following this, interested volunteers took part in a two-day interactive workshop on the 20th and 21st, where they were officially designated as "CGI Green Ambassadors."
During the workshop, participants delved into the significance of waste segregation, gained hands-on experience with composting, and enjoyed waste segregation games. They also upcycled old shirts into reusable T-bags and explored practical ways to lead a sustainable lifestyle. In addition, the session provided insights into municipal systems, empowering participants to report and address community issues effectively.
As part of the course, the new Green Ambassadors conducted a campus survey to identify environmental challenges, which they are now planning to tackle in the coming days. The experience was both engaging and productive, leaving everyone inspired and ready to make a positive impact!
Clay Ganapathi Workshop: Promoting Eco-Friendly Celebrations
Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is a vibrant festival celebrated through the installation of clay idols of Ganesha, called murtis, in both homes and beautifully decorated public pandals. In keeping with our commitment to eco-friendly celebrations, our organization proudly hosted clay Ganapathi workshops for the ninth consecutive year. These workshops took place at multiple locations, where participants learned to craft their own clay idols while gaining valuable insights into the environmental impacts of plaster of Paris (POP) and artificial colors.
This year, we organized events, where community members engaged in hands-on activities that not only fostered creativity but also promoted sustainable practices. Participants left with their own handmade murtis, a deeper appreciation for the environment, and the knowledge to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in a way that honors both tradition and nature.
We organized the events in different locations:
On September 1st, we proudly hosted our clay Ganapathi workshop for the fifth consecutive year at Alembic Forest View. The enthusiasm among the residents was palpable, and their keen interest made the event even more special. Over 100 participants eagerly engaged in the hands-on crafting process, embracing the opportunity to create their own eco-friendly Ganesha idols. It was heartwarming to see the community come together, reinforcing our shared commitment to celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi in an environmentally conscious way.
On September 1st, we organized another clay Ganapathi workshop at our office, welcoming over 40 enthusiastic participants. The energy in the room was incredible as everyone immersed themselves in the creative process of crafting their own eco-friendly Ganesha idols. Click here to witness the event.
On September 5th, the residents of Kanaka Layout graciously welcomed us to conduct the clay Ganapathi workshop. Their warmth and enthusiasm made the event truly special, drawing over 30 participants eager to engage in this creative experience. The atmosphere was vibrant as everyone came together to craft their own eco-friendly Ganesha idols.
On September 13th, our clay Ganapathi workshop for the kids of Saptagiri Layout was filled with life and energy! The young participants were bursting with creativity as they crafted their own eco-friendly Ganesha idols.
Our visit to Vande Gomatarm Gurukula on September 22nd was truly enlightening. The Gurukula, with its beautiful goshala, exemplified sustainable living practices reminiscent of our ancestors. During the clay Ganapathi workshop held there, we had the pleasure of hosting 50 enthusiastic participants. The experience was not only about crafting but also about connecting with our roots and fostering a deeper appreciation for the environment. It was a memorable day filled with knowledge, creativity, and community spirit! Â
By concluding this year’s Ganesha workshop series, we’re proud to have reached over 350 individuals who are now more informed about the environmental impact of using plaster of Paris (POP). Together, we’re making strides toward reducing POP usage and celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi in a way that honors both tradition and our planet. Thank you to everyone who joined us on this meaningful journey!
Asia-Pacific Congress On Organics And Climate Change
The First Regional Organics Congress took place from September 25th 2024 to 27th 2024, at the Bangalore International Centre in Domlur. Hosted by Hasiru Dala and the India Zero Waste Alliance, this vibrant gathering brought together approximately 125 representatives from countries including India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and beyond.
The congress featured engaging discussions and collaborative strategies aimed at advancing organic waste management. Highlights included a two-day conference on Organics and Climate, which focused on critical topics such as Just Transition, Environmental Principles, and innovative technologies. Additionally, an expo showcased leading service providers and technology vendors dedicated to sustainable solutions.
This event served as a powerful platform for knowledge sharing and partnership building, fostering a collective commitment to addressing the challenges of organic waste and climate change. It was an inspiring opportunity for participants to connect, learn, and collaborate for a greener future.Â
Team LBTC has partnered with BBC Media Action through their invaluable Bengaluru program to promote the "Wash the Dabba" campaign. To reach a larger audience, we set up a stall at the congress where we engaged participants in a fun game. This interactive approach helped illustrate the importance of washing food containers and maintaining hygiene, while also highlighting the crucial role this plays in ensuring the health and safety of waste pickers. It was a great opportunity to spread awareness and foster a cleaner, healthier community!
