HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH
Veeraru, An Eco Warrior:
Empowering young warriors with knowledge, recognition, and sustainable rewards for their journey towards a low-waste future!!
Project Repurpose - OSB India:
Last month, women from Koramangala 4th Block reached out, eager to learn the art of textile repurposing. Their enthusiasm sparked a wave of community engagement, inspiring more individuals to join the initiative. In a remarkable turn, even a local tailor stepped forward, offering to stitch leftover fabric into meaningful products.
Products Crafted:
With creativity and dedication, these women have upcycled textile waste into a range of sustainable products:
Tote Bags – 100
Jeans Pouches – 100
Travel Pouches – 50
Purses – 25
Party Kits – 10 sets
Multipurpose Rakhis & Hair Bows – 50
Expanding beyond textiles, our commitment to sustainability led us to explore coconut shell upcycling, resulting in 100 beautifully crafted coconut shell bowls.

Transforming Schools Through Veeraru Engagement – Esper:
Building on last month’s field visit to the Dry Waste Collection Center and Bio-Methanation Plant, students presented what they had learned on February 22nd to their peers and teachers. Their efforts were celebrated with sustainable goodies, including jeans-patched bags, pouches, mementos, and badges.
We also hosted a drawing competition with over 30 participants to engage the entire school. The top 9 winners were awarded a drawing kit, a jeans pouch, a pen, and a certificate.
Infrastructure Upgrades:
Completed electrical and plumbing work for the washrooms
Installed aerated taps at the handwashing station
Fabricated a protective mesh to enhance durability
Namma Swachha Adugodi (NSA) – Bosch:
SWM in the Community
As shared in our previous newsletter, this CSR initiative by Bosch is being implemented in collaboration with LBTC, Saahas, and BBMP. The Adugodi community is divided into 14 blocks, with this year’s focus on 3 blocks.
Progress So Far:
Door-to-door awareness campaigns were conducted, distributing pamphlets and assigning unique waste collection numbers to households.
Evening awareness sessions featured inspiring educational videos, emphasizing the impact of small plastic waste and encouraging responsible disposal.
Community Engagement Activities (Feb 16th):
Rangoli Competition & Musical Chairs brought residents together, using creative engagement to spread awareness.
Empowering Pourakarmikas (Feb 14th):
A capacity-building workshop was held for sanitation workers to:
Improve waste segregation practices
Address the issue of open dumping, as some residents were found handing waste directly to Pourakarmikas, who then disposed of it in open spaces
Repair Campaign (Feb 22nd):
To promote a culture of repair and reuse, we organized a Repair Camp featuring:
A shoemaker
A knife sharpener
A bicycle repairer
A tailor
Residents brought their belongings for repair, reinforcing the idea that items can be fixed instead of discarded, reducing overall waste generation.
Exploring Hazardous Waste Management:
As part of the project, we visited Maridi Bio Industries Pvt Ltd to gain deeper insights into hazardous waste handling. Our future goal is to implement proper hazardous waste management in Adugodi to ensure that no waste ends up in landfills.
